Huawei Y9 2019 Review

hi guys, so i bought a huawei y9 2019 as my daily driver for some time. before that I had HTC 10 but unfortunately it got stolen.

I had to get a device for just about a few months so I bought a huawei y9 2019 and here's my in-depth review of the phone.

so let's dive right into it.

design/looks:
I have the blue color variant of the phone and man it looks awsome. the back is a muilti layered plastic which feels somewhat like a glass back.

you have your 2 back cameras vertically positioned on the left of the device and the fingerprint sensor is just on the perfect spot at the back of the device. my finger naturally touches the exact right spot.

front has a notch, but I have to mention that I got used to it very very quickly due to the software.
there is also an option to hide the notch in the settings (how to hide the notch).

i personally dint hide the notch I kind of wanted to try the notch so I left it there and it dosent cover anything so it is just better to leave it there.

display:
the display is a huge tall wide 6.5 inches. it is a lcd panel but the color reproduction is quite well. it has nightmode which filters blue light and also makes the screen's tone a little warmer but you can choose how warm or cold the display you need it to be. it is a 1080p 396ppi 19:5:9 aspect ratio. I like a display but coming from a quad HD display I can feel the difference while watching movies.

cameras:
so the huawei y9 2019 is equipped with 4 cameras 2 on the front and 2 on the back. I would say the cameras deserve A grade not A+. the front cameras are a combo of 13mp f/1.8 and 2mp f/2.4. the 2mp camera is a depth sensor. the device also supports face unlock. I personally use the fingerprint sensor because it is lightning fast and works in the dark aswell where as the faceunlock works very fast in the day but at night in the dark it dosent work. the back cameras is a combo of 16mp f/2.0 and 2mp f/1.8 depth sensor. the phone also has night mode and it make the picture a little less noisy and grainy. it takes a bit to snap the picture in night mode but it does make some significant difference. over all it is a nice camera it tends to over sharpen the photos but then you have the manual controls, the camera really shows its colour when ai mode is enabled. in some cases it makes so much difference so much difference that you say that i would have regret if I would have snapped the shot with ai turned off, one thing to note is that you cannot zoom in while ai is enabled.  g6it is a quite nice camera.

software:
i am currently on Emui v8.2.0 Android 8.1 oreo. now it is packed with features and useful ones. the software is very well optimized and I have never experienced any sluggish ui force closes or random reboots. 99 percent of the apps work well but due the screen form factor very few apps don't quite work but it is very rare. huawei has been always good on software updates and I have also recived 2 updates. 1 major and 1 minor. the major update improved the camera and overall performance of the device. the device has features to improve battery life but more in that in the battery section. it has some awsome features that you other wise wouldn't be able to do. it has a built in screen recorder which is capable of recording internal audio no root. it is awsome. it has many many customizations themes etc. I am currently waiting for android 9.0 pie for this device and I will see how it improves the device.

battery and performance:
now I am going to describe the battery and performance situation. the phone has a 4000mah giant battery and with the help of the software optimizations it lasts easily for a day for me. the processor is a kirin 710 and not the fastest or one of the fastest but take it this way it runs pubg mobile with medium resolution high frame rates without getting heated up or slowing down. I am a very heavy user I edit youtube videos on kinemaster and export sometimes well over an hour of 1080p videos. it takes a hour but it gets done and I can easily stress the device alot and still get 7hrs plus of screen on time. if I don't do the video export thing I get 10hrs plus screen on time and mostly more than that. the device is smart and lowers the resolution to 720p when the battery is low and this feature can be turned off in the settings.

All the remaining things:
so I will put all the extras here, first and the thing that I hate the most about this device is that it's a 2018 to 2019 device and it still has micro USB like really micro USB and the charge technology, there is no fast charging on the device. now I have never calculated the accrual time it takes to fill it up but it is for sure well above an hour and 20 mins.

conclusion:
I love the phone, obviously it is a budget phone but for the price it does pack a lot. I can game on it I can edit I can watch videos on the large screen I use social media alot. cameras are good. overall the device is very nice. but the micro USB does bother me alot and it might be a deal breaker for you.

so there you have it guys the full in depth review of huawei y9 2019.
